Why everyone should watch Red Band Society right now

Red Band Society was a show that aired in 2015 and got cancelled way before planned, but nevertheless I loved it. It didn't get the exposure it deserved and I guess that's why it had to be taken off air.

Anyway, it was a show about a bunch of kids who were patients at the paediatric ward of Ocean Park Hospital and suffered from various conditions like cancer, having an amputated leg, being bulimic and being in a coma - along with the regular dose of drama that teens have to go through. The name for the show is Red Band Society because after each major surgery the kids got a Red Band to keep which I thought was a cool concept. Provided they survived the surgery!

The characters were your typical cool kid - Leo - this handsome guy who had an amputated leg. He was the popular one who used to get to go to parties and hang out with any girl he wanted but now that he had cancer he was stuck at the hospital. But soon enough he started flirting with Emma - the almost invisible girl who used to be the complete opposite of him in school. Of course, Emma liked him back and then they had a 'thing'.

Unsurprisingly, Leo had to go and spoil stuff with Emma when he hooked up with Kara - this cheerleader who was also admitted into the hospital when she fainted during cheer practice and needed a new kidney/liver/heart (not sure which)!

Then comes my absolutely favourite character - Jordi. He's this kid who due to some complications at home sort of runs away (I think) and comes to the doctor asking him to perform surgery on him because he too has cancer and needs to undergo surgery on his leg.

Leo strikes up a friendship with Jordi and understands what he's going through because it seems like Jordi will have to lose a leg as well. But then Jordi luckily gets keep his leg after his surgery which upsets Leo - which I guess is relatable. Now, Leo is the only one without a leg - poor him!

Jordi is the sweet guy, like the one who sings and plays the guitar and is super cute  and he too falls for Emma - but Emma like every other typical stupid girl is still CONFUSED and pining over the idiot that is Leo!

I like how Kara the mean, catty, angsty cheerleader finds her own guy too - who's this really hot person who's injured or something - I can't really remember that part. And thankfully she learns a few lessons about life as well. Like the fact that her superficial friends' and materialistic desires would get her nowhere! But the thing is, her guy dies in the end, which just goes to show - all good things have to come to an end. But at least, Kara becomes a better human being.

Emma is the main girl who's bulimic and super thin and pretty and smart and cool. Like she's the one who's beautiful just the way she is but doesn't know it so every guy in the whole series has to fall for her to realise that! And then she's all like - what do I do, every boy I know loves me - Gee, oh my god - what a problem! 

I didn't like Emma much, but I can't help it. She's just so generic.

 But all these characters even with their flaws is what makes this show a whole. You're going to love it no matter what. You will find yourself within all of them and you'll lose a part of your heart to them.

So basically what my dramatic conclusion meant to say was that you definitely have to go and watch it! It's barely 13 episodes!!!

And I completely forgot to mention the narration for the whole show is done by this kid Charlie, who's stuck in a coma. So he can hear everything, he just can't respond. And whenever the other kids go into surgery and are unconscious, Charlie appears to them and interacts with them - which is all very cool. Charlie's a sweet and funny kid, so it's all quite interesting.

This picture is honestly so funny - it perfectly captures the love triangle: a confused Emma, a desperate and guilty Leo and a poor heartbroken Jordi who knows he's going to lose to his jerk of a friend.



When Leo took Emma to her first dance. Alright, I admit - these two look just a tad bit cute but if I were Emma I had no doubt choose Jordi. 



Kara and her guy - Hunter. They're so, so cute. Hunter changes Kara for the better and really, what more could you ask for? 



Typical Emma behaviour. I just don't know why the best boys have to fall for me - blah, blah. I don't buy this bullshit.
